Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion ( skin polishing ) is a cosmetic procedure that uses a mechanical medium for exfoliation to gently remove the outermost layer of dead skin cells. Microdermabrasion is a painless, non-invasive, skin rejuvenation procedure using a combination of a fine abrasive diamond tip or aluminium oxide crystals and a vacuum suction applied to the skin. Typically there are no needles or anesthetics required. The vacuum pressure and speed are adjusted depending on the sensitivity and tolerance of the skin. Typical microdermabrasion sessions can last anywhere from 15–40 minutes. Minimal to no recovery time is required after microdermabrasion and most people immediately return to daily activity after a session. Target area includes face, neck, back and arms. Needs to be repeated at average intervals of two - four weeks for continued improvement. Multiple treatments in combination with sunscreen, and other skin care creams yield best results.

Microdermabrasion may be performed to help diminish the appearance of superficial hyperpigmentation, and sun damage, as well as diminish fine lines, wrinkles, acne, and shallow acne scars. A further benefit of microdermabrasion is enhanced skin penetration by other skin creams and serums. Microdermabrasion treatment carries no side effects or complications.

Micro Needling

Microneedling or micro-needling is a process that involves using needles to puncture hundreds of tiny holes in the skin (yes, seriously).Microneedling, also called Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), involves using a tool called a dermapen with tiny needles at the end that make little holes or needle pricks in the top layers of skin.

Another method of microneedling uses a dermaroller which looks like a miniature paint roller with lots of tiny needles that is gently rolled in different directions over the surface of skin to achieve the same effect.

The purpose of this procedure is twofold:

The little holes from the needles create “micro channels” that allow skincare products, such as potent serums, to penetrate and absorb into the deeper layers of skin to deliver more powerful results.

These tiny pinpricks act as a bunch of mini injuries which kick skin into healing mode and stimulates collagen and elastin production. This process plumps skin and improves the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, scars and pores.

The whole process takes around 20-30 minutes and, while it involves needles in your face (a thought that would normally elicit a full body shudder), the process is apparently pretty painless.

You can expect some redness for up to a couple days afterward as a result of all the skin stimulation, but it subsides quickly as the healing begins and the results of more glowing, supple skin start to show.

To get truly effective results, you’ll need more than one treatment to continually build collagen and elastin.
